Spotlight: Introducing Devon Myles, Myles Creative Media
Easily one of the most talented artists out there, Devon Myles comes at with you with a raw skill that defies all colours of logic…
I have had the opportunity to meet with him, discussing all sorts of things ranging from recent movies (X-Men Origins, The Watchmen) to future projects and ambitions, and possible collaborations (we share a love of superheroes and graphic novels, I write, he illustrates, go figure..) and I have found that not only is he ridiculously overtalented, he is a very down to earth, honest and a grossly humble individual.
With his ambition gearing in overdrive, He agreed to be featured by me and generously provided a bio, scores of illustrations and links to his work, just a glimpse of his dedication to his work and a clear focus on his ambition.
With no further delay, I present to you..
Devon Myles

Devon Myles, creator of Myles Creative Media,
was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica, and came to Canada at the age of 16. Like most young children, Devon began doodling at a young age and was exposed to Marvel and DC Comics which were his earliest and most impressionable artistic influences.
As he grew older, his observations of art matured and he became influenced by: comic books, ancient cultural knowledge and mythologies, hip hop culture, sci-fi and fantasy movies, cartoons, Disney and Anime (Japanese animation).
These sources of media nurtured his hunger to draw.
Although he did start off envisioning himself as a comic book artist, his growth transcended that genre and now his portfolio includes illustrations for magazine columns, concept and character designs, apparel art for clothing lines and branding, which includes logo and mascot designs for businesses.
His constant growth can be attested to his self-awareness, and his view that creativity is an area for constant growth brings him to where he is today: dynamic visual design.
Yet to tap into his full potential, Devon constantly challenges his abilities. He has always ascertained that each artist’s uniqueness comes from their own interpretation of their environment and personal experiences.
“Art cannot be controlled”
Devon maintains that his love of art and the creative process behind it, drive him to be better at his skill. His drive also comes from the process of taking an idea or concept to a finished visual product. This creative process allows him to draw upon the many influences and references over the years which have come to define his style and enables him to explore his ideas, then to utilize his abilities as an outlet.
Sacrifice is necessary in order to expand his creativity and perfect his talent. By putting in long hours of drawing and sketching he has been able to hone his skill, maintain his growth as an artist and complete projects.
“From concept to visual” entails the beginning stages of obtaining a creative idea and bringing it to completion.
Via traditional method, (pencil sketching or thumbnails) Devon sketches out the concept. Ideas and sketches are then compared to determine what best conveys the concept. Once the ideal draft is chosen, the concept is then digitized and brought to completion.
He uses a variety of tools during this process. Firstly, a simple sketch of the ideas, next the transition to computerized tools: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Wacom Tablet. Focus is kept on the end result to accomplish the finished project.
“Everything has a start and a finish”
His training is rooted in life drawing, human anatomy, proportion, foreshortening, perspective, colour theory, the application of light and shadow, as well as various design techniques. His talent is based on his raw skills and he is self taught in the industry standard graphic programs he uses.
“Creativity never ends, completion falls under achievements”

Future goals include establishing a reputable art studio that caters to concept and character designs for video games, story boards for movies and animations, comic book and graphic novel illustrations, art and designs for clothing lines, logos for businesses and creating wall art.
