Introducing: J.Cole (RocNation)
Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you Jermaine Cole a.k.a J.Cole. a rapper/producer from Fayetteville, North Carolina who is very much in the same mold as Kanye West, “College Dropout” Kanye West, that is.
As the first artist under the new label Roc Nation, headed by Jay-z, he certainly has alot to live up to. Inspired by artists such as 2pac, Nas and Outkast, a level of realness and presence is evident in his music which you get to sample below. In an era filled with ring tone craziness with emphasis on the beat rather than the lyrics, it is always refreshing to hear music where the lyrics and beats compliment each other, which is what you get in the mixtape below, The Warm Up.
The Warm Up is a 22-track free mixtape introducing hip hop heads and fans alike to the mind of J.Cole. Filled with tracks of real life experiences and a bit of boasting which is often expected, it is already picking up acclaim from people on hip hop blogs and forums as one of THE mixtapes of the year.
Very much following the model of generating buzz for an artist these days such as the way Drake did with the “So Far Gone” mixtape and Lil’ Wayne with “The Leak” mixtapes, you are certainly bound to hear a lot more from J.Cole as he prepares to drop a debut album this fall or early next year.
