A Noble Heritage
Its rare that an individual with so much creativity comes into our presence, dazzling us with the fruit of their labour, their talents speaking volumes of them without them having to open up their mouth to speak for themselves. The person I’m referring to is a Ayo Akinola, the face behind AyoNoble, the African -inspired art collection of diverse medium.
Born 198* in Lagos, Nigeria, AyoNoble realized her creative gift at an early age, and was inspired by the simplicity and natural beauty of her African surroundings. She moved with her family to the United States before her fourth birthday, where she attended Elementary and High School, than later relocated to Toronto, Canada to enroll in a program at Ryerson University. In 2004, AyoNoble began to formally showcase her art pieces and designs mostly in oil and acrylic on canvas, documenting her interpretation of the female form in pieces such as “Fallin’”, “Expectant”, and “SongCry”. She later moved into commissioned pieces with her uniquely distinctive style using deconstructed shapes and imagery to represent movement in both abstracted and representational pieces. AyoNoble’s representaional collection of Nigerian “Ankara” textile was debuted in the Elements of Art and Style Exposed show in Washington, D.C. in 2008. Another one of her painting series titled EGUN, inspired by childhood imagery of Yoruba masquerades was released in early 2009.
AyoNoble is the creative mind behind AyoNoble Designs where she has recently been working in print media, creating and manipulating images to communicate and refashion pieces in her unique style in such work as FELA and Mother’s Day. She is also working on designing a line of greeting cards as well as Corporate decor.
According to her, “I aim to translate art into everyday life for my clients. That means if I am working with a space, I bring my art into interior design. If I am working with canvas or any other medium, I turn it into visual art pieces. I view art as a silent escape; after coming home from a hard day of work, your space should be a place you can rest your eyes and your thoughts and go wherever you want. That’s what I try to acheive for my clients. I don’t create the escape location or details, I just provide the transportation.”
Oh, and she’s a writer too..
