ND-”Scandal”-The Official Mixtape
Seemingly out of nowhere, Howard University’s Nduka (ND) Jemie comes into the entertainment industry with a bang, releasing his mixtape “Scandal” on the 1st of September.
From the moment I was privileged enough to get a copy of his mixtape teaser, I knew that this mixtape was definitely one for the collection..and in my opinion, it did not disappoint.
Filled with attention grabbing instrumentals, catchy hooks and well delivered verses, “Scandal”, the mixtape, is definitely something worth listening to, over and over again, I might add.
It has a refreshing blend of musical styles that is bound to appeal to a large audience, from the club banger-”Bamidele” to the quasi-UK R&B infused track “Rollercoaster, beats that get your head bopping automatically (“Starstruck”) and a bassline that sounds perfectly at home in a low rider Cadillac.
Most impressive, in my opinion, is the title track “Scandal”. Delivery, vocals, instrumentals, production quality, all were on point, making it one of my personal favourite tracks, along with “Back To You”, which has something that appeals greatly to my senses..I justcan’t seem to put a finger on it. Whatever it is, it works for me.
To add to it all, he even has a “Blame It” version with Riz! Halfway through listening to the track, I had to stop it and rewind when I recognized his voice.
One thing I don’t get though, is why he chose to label this project a “mixtape”. Through in a couple more original content and this could easily have passed for a debut album. I’m just saying. In any case, making it available as a free download is a definite plus in my books. I would have paid for it anyway, but freebies are always a good thing. Especially when they are of this quality.
