Moyeen & Her Music
Blessed with an amazing voice and superb songwriting skills, singer/ songwriter Moyeen is definitely somebody to keep a close eye on in the very near future.
We had the opportunity to catch up with her to get an idea of what she is all about.
Raised in Nigeria, Moyeen was educated at QC in Lagos, and is currently working in Alberta, Canada, after her college stint in the states, where she spent much of her time and money writing and recording songs, doing backup singing for a number of recording artists and doing live performances with her band Surreal in Georgia, and a reggae rock band One Drop in 2004 until their disbanding to follow different career paths. Despite all this, Moyeen continued to follow her passion, performing with various “gypsy bands” at the same time.
At the moment, she is currently attached to Lagos based Play Palm Records, an independent label that focuses on artist development, which is obvious, judging from the quality of music Moyeen produces.
Moyeen has been on the music scene for practically a decade, ever since her graduation from high school, the period from then till now what she calls her “apprenticeship period”, proving that if you want something passionately, you have to work hard for it to become a reality, triumphing over the criticisms and obstacles along the way.
Moyeen is currently working on her debut studio album which is set to be released both online and in Nigeria in the second half of the year, and gives us something to look forward to.
With her distinct mellifluous vocals and neo-soul sound reminiscent of Jill Scott, Moyeen offers music that is not just refreshing, but also a provides a look at the immense talent Nigeria has to offer
