Interview with Soyinka’s Afro

1)Who is “Soyinka’s Afro”?
Soyinka’s Afro is a music group made up of Ajebutter22 and Taymi B currently signed to Beautiful Music UK
2.How did you come up with the name?
The name is from Ajebutter 22’s personal motto ‘Some of these people like us the others are foes but we’ll keep growing like Soyinka’s Afro’. He says it all the time so I (Taymi) thought why not name the group “Soyinka’s Afro” and it caught on.
3.)Where are you currently based and how did you guys meet?
We are currently based in the UK , we met years ago when Ajebutter22 was brought home by the rents and they said to me Taymi behold this squirmy little being is your brother LoL! So we are siblings.
4.I love “London Girl to a Lagos Boy”. Who wrote the song and is it based on personal experiences?
I (Taymi) wrote the song, Ajebutter22 wrote his rap. The song is based on personal experience, not that I have a Lagos boy calling me “omalicha” LoL but I’ve been in that position and loads of people are in that position right now so I wrote the song for some people and about some people, if that makes sense LoL!
5.When did you get involved in music full time and when did you realize it was your “thing”?
We are not really in music full time , we are still students and we own a clothing line called “Toy Inc”, with added lines “Toy Couture” and “Bits n Bobs” for accessories. My sister is also a fashion photographer so we have a lot going on aside from music. We decided to put our music out late last year though.
6.When can we expect some more singles, a video and the album?
A lot more singles should be out this month (Feb.) and our mix tape “Death of The Skip Button” is out on the 24th of February and it will be available on gidilounge.com. There is also a track listing available on our label’s website www.beautifulmusiconline.net.
7.Apart from music, what are your other passions?
Well as mentioned before photography, fashion, reading, travelling – Taymi . Ajebutter 22 – football, fashion, stuff
8.Who are your favourite Nigerian and International artists?
hmmm..we practically like the same people thinking about it. Modenine, Ajuju, Chykay, J. Cole, Drake, Slick Rick…LoL a lot. We are real hiphop and soul heads lol!
9.What is the best and worst thing about the Nigerian music industry?
Lol! The industry, to be honest, we are not gonna even act like we know, but from our experience so far, the worst thing is the corrupt system. People be tryna get paid to play your song even when its clearly good. Talent is not needed anymore, its more about who you know. The best thing is gotta be that people are getting better everyday and its refreshing to say the least.
Thanks for the support guys download the mixtape… We guarantee we didn’t mess up!
Two fingers in the atmosphere!
