“Intuition”-Lami {Review}
Intuition: direct perception of truth, fact, etc., independent of any reasoning process.
If there was ever a more defining name for an album, this is it. Intuition by Lami Phillips is the truth. Each track is carefully thought out; every song a classic with lyrics that speak of someone wiser than her true age may attest to. The singer and songwriter shone bright on her first album, and as she set the bar very high, there can be no going down. She will have to put up even more exceptional material for her forthcoming albums.
I don’t like that I cannot tell you, who she sounds like. I like to compare singers, especially to see if they have indeed passed the mark of some sort. In this case she is the mark; it would be up to future artists to try to sound like her and even better.
She has what I call a very rough sound, trust me in this case rough is great. It’s not a grating sound but something like Angie Stone’s or Tina Turner’s voice. It makes for a very solid soulful album with all the elements of new age African flavor, Jazz and hip hop; she raps on Cold and flows nicely on tracks like Nuttin and Ere -Ife where she speaks both Yoruba and English.

She starts with a spoken word track, defining music for us. She ends the track by saying “Music births Intuition”. She ain’t ever lied. As the album progressed I realized that I loved the songs with other artists more. I don’t know, they just seem to bring the best in her, she harmonizes beautifully and her voice softens up just a little, smooth sailing if you wish. I also commend her on her choice of featured artists M.I, Eldee, ID Cabasa, Jeremiah Gyang and Lucci; they did not overshadow her and were quite impressive. I’m looking forward to hearing her work with other female artists as well, though that could prove tricky due to the uniqueness of her voice, so I would like to see her pull that off.
I contradict myself though when I say “Find” has to be my favorite song on this album. There is no other artist on here, just Lami with the best lyrics I have heard in a song since, well, I can’t remember. This song is so “Sade-esque”. The production and instrumentals on this song are bliss and her voice is pure. It’s a very emotional song, and it transforms me instantly to a setting of me sitting with my glass of wine on the balcony, the moon my only light as the breeze blows ever so gently, reflecting on the one I want to find me with his love. Never mind that as I listen right now, I am at my desk at work. Bliss

I loved the way she started this album, but I absolutely love and adore the way she ended this album, giving praise to whom Praise is due always. Lami was magnificent on this album and we at Angonemi.Com apologize for the disservice we did, by not reviewing this album as soon as it came out in December.
If you haven’t heard it, please go get it ASAP, it’s for sale on notjustok.com and should be on sale at every music vendor in Nigeria, if its not you should send a message to Lami and her management to have it distributed to your part of town.
Wishing her all the best in what I’m sure will be a very successful journey, I for one am a fan.
